We brighten up the Autumn with two brand new releases from our Who Talk range of commentaries, available now!

The first of our latest pairing covers the 1985 serial Attack of the Cybermen, which opened Colin Baker’s first full season as The Doctor.

Attack of the Cybermen is a bright, pacey and in places quite a gory production,” says producer Paul W T Ballard. “It’s fitting therefore that Eric Saward is on top acerbic form, and covers the often questioned authorship of the serial once and for all. He is joined by David Banks and Brian Orrell, who provide their first commentary recordings for the range.”

There is also an alternative commentary track for second episode.

“I was determined to get Michael Kilgarriff involved as he isn’t often asked about his second outing as the Cybercontroller. We were thrilled to be joined by Sarah Berger and Ian Marshall-Fisher too, although we realised during the session that not one of them showed their face on screen!”

Attack of the Cybermen is moderated by Toby Hadoke, and features David Banks, Michael Kilgarriff, Sarah Berger, Brian Orrell, Ian Marshall-Fisher and Eric Saward.

The second release of the month is a selection box collection, featuring UNIT based episodes.

“Quite often there are stories where it’s not necessarily worth revisiting the serial in its entirety, so it’s good to do selected parts of it, and this is where these compilations come into their own,” explains Paul. “It also means the listener gets quite a range of eras and voices to listen to, which might be one of the reasons they are so popular.”

Re.U.N.I.T.ed 2 is available as a standard version or special edition release, with a bonus disc.

“We have the Pertwee UNIT family onboard to share their memories with us; Katy Manning, Richard Franklin and John Levene, but we are also joined by Robert Jezek to recall Battlefield and Philip Hinchcliffe and George Gallaccio remember The Seeds of Doom,” says Paul. “But perhaps the most special track might be that of Stephen Thorne watching episode five of The Daemons. He was a gentleman to work with, and a Doctor Who legend, so I think it’s a fitting tribute that we’re able to include this.”

For the special edition, there is the addition of two rare commentaries.

“For the first time, we get John Levene to watch what is one of his strongest performances in the show, in Invasion of the Dinosaurs, which results in quite a touching track,” reveals Paul. “And we go slightly pre-UNIT and show Frazer Hines an episode of The Web of Fear!”

“It’s been a terrible year for all of us I think, and one of the results of the global situation is that we haven’t been able to get into the studio to record anything new in 2020. However, we have still got plenty up our sleeves and heading your way, so stay tuned!” smiles Paul.
