FANTOM FRIDAY: CHILDREN OF THE STONES – LIMITED HARDBACK EDITION

Happy Day! This week’s Fantom Friday takes us back to the most unsettling British children’s television series ever made.

We’re offering the original hardback edition of Children of the Stones, the novelisation based on the classic 1970s television series starring Gareth Thomas and Freddie Jones.

Only 6 copies are available at £24.99 each plus postage.

And these aren’t new reprints. The original hardback has been long out of print, making this a particularly nice find for anyone who remembers the series or collects classic television books.

For those who have never encountered it, the story follows Professor Adam Brake, an astrophysicist who arrives in the seemingly peaceful village of Milbury with his teenage son Matthew. Surrounded by an ancient stone circle, Milbury appears idyllic enough, but it soon becomes clear that something very strange is happening beneath the surface.

Children of the Stones was unlike much of the children’s television being made at the time. It was genuinely eerie, intelligent and unsettling, mixing science fiction, ancient mysteries and psychological horror with a story that trusted its young audience to engage with something darker.

The original television series has gone on to become a cult classic, remembered not simply for frightening a generation of viewers, but for the atmosphere it created. The stone circle, the strangely cheerful villagers, the mysterious forces at work and that unforgettable sense that something was very wrong all helped give the series a legacy that has lasted for decades.

It remains a fascinating example of how ambitious British children’s television could be. Children of the Stones didn’t talk down to its audience, instead creating a story that could be enjoyed by younger viewers while leaving plenty for adults to think about.

This original novelisation was published 35 years ago and offers another way to revisit the world of Milbury.

If you remember watching Children of the Stones, this is a chance to own a little piece of its history. If you’ve never experienced it, perhaps it’s time to discover why the series is still talked about today.

Once this Fantom Friday offer ends, these copies will disappear back into the stones…
