FANTOM FRIDAY: A RARE CHANCE TO OWN AUNTIE’S CHARLIE

We have 12 copies of the long out-of-print original hardback edition available for 72 hours only, while stocks last.

Fantom Publishing is going back into the archives for this week’s Fantom Friday offer, bringing back a book that has been unavailable for some time.

We have found 12 copies of the original hardback edition of Auntie’s Charlie: The Autobiography of Charles Chilton, complete with a foreword by Roy Hudd.

Charles Chilton was one of the great figures of British broadcasting. Joining the BBC as a 15-year-old messenger boy, he went on to spend 46 years with the Corporation as a presenter, writer and producer.

His career took in everything from working in the BBC Gramophone Library to writing Oh What a Lovely War for Joan Littlewood’s Theatre Workshop. He also travelled to America to research and produce programmes about the history of the American West, including Riders of the Range.

Of course, for many fans, Chilton is best remembered for creating Journey into Space, the hugely popular science-fiction serial which he wrote and produced between 1953 and 1958.

In Auntie’s Charlie, Chilton looks back on his remarkable life and career in his own words. It is an entertaining and revealing account of a man who played a significant part in the history of British radio and television.

Charles Chilton was described by the Sunday Telegraph as being about “the one genius the BBC ever had on its staff” and offers a fascinating glimpse behind the scenes of Chilton’s long career.

The offer will run for 72 hours, or until all 12 copies have been sold.

Only £24.99 plus postage.

This is a rare chance to own a true piece of nostalgia!
