Fright 2: Christopher Lee

Our second fright offer shines a light on the work of the legendary Hammer Horror star Sir Christopher Lee.

Christopher Frank Carandini Lee was born on 27th May 1922, and served in the RAF during the Second World War, before embarking on a career in acting. A student at Rank’s “Charm School”, it was to be his association with Hammer Films that would bring him to the public’s attention.

The first of these was 1957’s The Curse of Frankenstein, in which he starred as Frankenstein’s monster, with Peter Cushing as Baron Frankenstein; the first of more than twenty films they starred in together. The following year saw Lee take on the title role of Dracula in Hammer’s acclaimed adaptation, which transformed Lee into a global star overnight.

Although future work on iconic franchises such as James Bond, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings cemented his international appeal, for many it is the horror genre for which Christopher Lee will always be associated, be it with Hammer or Amicus, or in the cult seventies shocker The Wicker Man.

Fantom presents five archival recordings of classic horror tales read by Christopher Lee on audio CD or download. The complete set features Dracula (Bram Stoker), Frankenstein (Mary Shelley), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Victor Hugo), The Phantom of the Opera (Gaston Leroux) and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (Robert Louise Stevenson). The Complete Collection is reduced to £43.49 in CD especially for Halloween, whilst individual volumes are £12.17 each. Downloads start at £3.99.

With such a distinctive and rich voice, it is no surprise that his reading of the great classic horror novels are incredibly evocative, and a must have purchase for any connoisseur of the genre.
